NEWS RELEASE: March 17, 2001

New PVI-X90 Heart of the System offers all-in-one solution

A common issue for anyone making group presentations these days is being able to display diverse video formats (from computers, VCRs, document cameras, DVDs, etc.) without needing more than one type of monitor. For example, how does a presenter easily switch from a SVGA computer source, to an image from an NTSC composite VCR, then to an S-Video document camera? The PointmakerŪ PVI-X90 Presentation System, manufactured by Boeckeler Instruments, Inc., is the first Pointmaker video marker to provide the solution. Through the use of video scaling technology, the process converts an NTSC and/or PAL television-format video signal to a higher resolution and scan rate.

With the PVI-X90, users can connect up to 4 different sources: 2 composite 2 S-Video (Y/C), and 2 computer. Users can easily select any one of these for presentation on up to 4 displays, making it valuable for use in classrooms, boardrooms, courtrooms, etc. Like its predecessors, this Pointmaker gives presenters the power to direct viewer attention by marking over any displayed image(s) with colorful drawings and a variety of pointers. Why someone would choose the PVI-X90 over other models is to streamline the equipment configuration it's a part of.

"The savings with this device are considerable if it keeps people from having to connect a switcher and scaler to the Pointmaker, then connect the Pointmaker to a distribution amp," says Boeckeler Vice President Pat Brey. "There's even money saved in less cabling and the shorter time it takes to hook everything up."

Feature Details

All PVI-X90 models come with a keyboard and are compatible with the presenter's most popular marking device -- a touch screen or touch panel (purchased separately, certain manufacturers). Sub-models of the PVI-X90 come bundled with other frequently requested marking devices. Presenters can choose to mark and draw using a RS-232 digitizing tablet (PVI-X90DR) that can also double as a PC mouse device when used with our PVIPC-20 software.

Once the PVI-X90 is installed, presenters may draw on video images using up to 7 colors in various line widths, or they can choose from a selection of marker types to point at image details. In addition, text can be typed over the image. If desired, up to ten pages of markers can be stored in advance of a formal presentation.

Each PVI-X90 model can be used with composite video and/or S-Video in NTSC or PAL. In addition, the PVI-X90 is compatible with most common computer standards for VGA, SVGA and Macintosh sources and displays, via HD-15 input/output connections. Scan rate compatibility ranges from 15.75 kHz to most SVGA scan rates up to 106.3 kHz. Computer video input (VGA, SVGA, XGA) is passed through the unit without scaling. Scaled output resolution is selectable up to 1280 x 1024 at 85Hz.
